Ahoy from Coron,
The high speed ferry from Coron had Wi-Fi, A/C, a snack counter and we got great seats.
Phewww, Redemption feels good in 20 degree controlled climate!
The two hour trek was a piece o’ piss, we deferried, (oh yeah when you leave a plane in the Philippines the hostesses announce that you will “deplane”) grabbed a trike to the other pier and 10 minutes later we were on a private boat to Discovery Resort on Discovery Island.
Jen-Jen booked this epic place that is only accessible by boat. It had a pool, and a restaurant and that was it. Our room was funky red and the A/C was plentiful.

We stayed here for three nights and didn't do much at all, except organise a final snorkelling trip.
Coron is considered the pinnacle of Filipino snorkelling and we wanted to ensure that we experienced this as much as we could. Due to antibiotics and terrible beer, we were not drinking so we spent our excess coin on getting a private boat for the day. One of the tours you could do in a group was called the Super Ultimate Day Tour. To do this with 20 others would have cost 3.2K, but a private boat was only 4.5K! No brainer - bring it on. Let’s do the Super Ultimate Day tour itinerary by ourselves!!
Jerry was our captain, and Diego (no English) was our boatman. We left at 8 am for a tour on our own terms. The restaurant had packed us a lunch of fruit, salad, water and soft drinks, and with our mask, snorkel and trusty water shoes, we were off.
Here is our basic itinerary for the day:
Stop 1: Kayangan Lake: Iconic viewpoint climb (300+ steps) and swimming in a turquoise lake
Stop 2: Barracuda Lake: Clear, warm water, known for unique diving and insane underwater sheer limestone cliff faces
Stop 3: Twin Lagoon: Swim through limestone cliffs in waist deep liquid magic
Stop 4: Lunch @ Banul Beach
Stop 5: Skeleton Wreck: Snorkeling over a shallow WWII ship
Stop 6: Coral Garden/Reef Garden: Vibrant, shallow coral spots and thousands of fish.
We also finally worked out how to take photos and videos with our underwater camera bag, so a lot of the film is our own.
The water today was on par with the Gili Island in Bali and all of the best sports in Thailand. It was absolutely insane.
The coral in the coral garden was absolutely pristine, and the day was probably the best of our trip so far.
After all of the sickness, crazy roads, heat and lack of communication, this was a perfect day, my friends.
We had a quiet dinner in the resort of grilled chicken, rice, veg, and salad, before returning to our rooms and crashing out like a shipwreck!
That’s pretty much it for the Philippines. A couple of pics that I took from the tuk-tuk, took pride of place on my phone... Below
We’re off to Khaosuing, Taiwan, tomorrow for a few days to check out a new place.
‘til then, dear readers, peace!
