Buljarica, Petrovac and Budva, plus The Day of Spontaneity on the Montenegran Riviera - 10th June 2026

Zdravo from Buljarica,
We reluctantly left our pitch, drove Delph onto a car ferry across the bay, passed through some beautiful beach towns and ended up in the tiny town of Buljarica. Chattz had recommended Camping Maslina because of shady pitches, good beaches and bike tracks into town. In the words of the Meat “2 out of 3 ain’t bad!” The bike track turned out to be the highway - so no thanks, chatty.
The caravan park was pretty epic and was situated in part of a 500-year-old olive grove. The trees were literally gnarly, and the energy was palpable. Check it out below.
We swam at the beach, and our pitch was super shady, and all was good in the world.
The village itself had a pekara (bakery), a mini-mart, roadside fruit sellers - epic cherries, tomatoes and cucumbers -, and four restaurants. Check out this vid below that shows Konoba Galeb - where we went twice and paid about $40 AUD for dinner two nights in a row. So simple, but so tasty!
The campsite itself didn’t have a shop but had a fridge that was 80% pivo (beer), 10% homemade wine, and 10% water and soft drink… man, I love this country. We didn’t try the homemade wine, but we may try it somewhere down the track!
The Day of Spontaneity
Jen-Jen is always on the hunt for a good hike, and generally, I don’t mind tagging along as long as it’s not too hot, I’ve eaten, I’ve got snacks and water in the backpack, I have a hat, proper walking attire, I’m not tired or hungover, and it’s not too far. Oh and I need to be able to have a wee behind a tree somewhere on the track, oh and a swim at the end, plus a beer or two is good. Then food… You get the picture, right?
Well anyway, we found a wee hike that left Buljarica, went over the hill to the lookout, down the other side to Luchice Beach, and then another 15 minutes into the town of Petrovac where we would lounge on sunbeds, swim, have lunch and walk back. No worries.
We knew that day was going to be pretty hot, so we left early - around 7.30 am.
Man, it was hot already by that stage, but we made it to the cute Luchice Beach, and decided to push on to Petrovac and have a swim at Luchice on the way home.
We got to Petrovac a little after 8 am and saw a restaurant under a resort - Hotel Vile Oliva - that was packed with people eating. Now we’ve been travelling long enough to know that if a joint is packed, it’s usually a good sign, so we went in and asked if we could have coffee.
The inside was packed, and we noticed it was a buffet breakfast.
We got our coffees and the bill was 20 Euros for two coffees??
Due to the language barrier, we had unwittingly paid for the bouffee!!!
Now, dear readers, you will all remember that Yours Truly LOVES a breaky buffet, so the only thing to do was hook in!!
Yep, 20 minutes later, these two adventurers were stuffed to the gills and ready for a sunbed.

As we walked the pretty promenade of Petrovac Beach, I saw a sign for a boat trip that went to all of the towns that we had passed on the way in. We had researched how to see Budva and Sveti Stefan, and we didn’t think that we would be able to see them. We couldn’t really drive Delph in as there was no parking and the public bus wasn’t running. To be able to visit these great-looking places by boat - no-brainer! 20 Euro each - 10 am to 4 pm - Yes please, sign urs up!!

We jumped on the Montenegran Star and spent an hour checking out beautiful beaches and the mind-boggling Sveti Stefan. Let Wikipedia explain:
Sveti Stefan (named after Saint Steven) is a tiny, picturesque islet and exclusive resort on the Adriatic coast of Montenegro. Located on the Budva Riviera, it is famous for its 15th-century stone houses with red roofs, narrow cobblestone streets, and its position as a playground for international celebrities and royalty.
It looked like a mini-mini, Dubrovnik. To see it from a boat was pretty cool as the beach is private and they wouldn’t even let us on the beach.
We then stopped at Budva and had free time for 2.5 hours. We had a great walk around, Greek salad and pizza for lunch, before a sunbed stop and a swim.
We looked at the old town that was at the end of the beach and thought it looked familiar. I opened my 2015 Blog, and yep, we’d already been there on the hungover Montenegrin trip…and Jen-Jen even had Greek Salad that day.

The boat then took us to Hawaii Island, where we saw some very clear water, had a great swim, coffee, and checked out the punters all sun-worshipping!

We jumped back on the boat and made the hour trip back to Petrovac. We walked back to Luchice, had swim number four for the day (five for Jen-Jen) and hiked back over the hill, back to Delph.
The construction of high rises in Budva was pretty intense. There were at least eight high rises in various states of completion on the one beach. This joint will be the new Nice, or Monaco, in a few years. Yep, you heard it here first!

All up, we did 18,000 steps in 31 Degree heat, when we were meant to do a 40-minute hike each way.

We’re now about to drive to the capital city of Podgorica, where we will leave Delph for a few days and take a spontaneous 4-day trip to Belgrade, Serbia!
(Spontan… a oh wait, I already said spontaneous in the previous sentence.)
Montenegro is awesome - just saying.
